[Barbara's folder is in her lap; a little crinkled, and hastily smoothed over from the half a dozen reading's she's managed so far. But she looks determined right now.]

Private to Buffy:

[Faith's just sort of... staring at her lap, here; fidgeting a little; there's hand scrawled notes all over the place, quizzes she made up for herself - mostly hidden, but peeking out between papers. There's a look of almost panic on her face - and she can't quite get out the request for help.

Just... give her a moment, would ya?]

Private to Barbara:

[The folder's stashed behind her somewhere - no clue as to how much or little attention she's been paying; there's a casual look to her, as if she's not going crazy.]

You up for drinks, Babs?

[She's phrasing this like a request; but she will be down there knocking your door open in no time if you say no.]

Public:

[The file's back in her lap again; she's only spent the last ten minutes making sure it's presentable - fidgeting and going back and forth. She's used to being the impulsive sort - but now she's in charge of someone, and that's... that's scary.

Still, she puts on a smile, and tries to laugh.]

Guess the Admiral got tired of my free ride, huh?

Buffy sighs a little.]

This is about having an inmate, huh. [Buffy sits up a little straighter.] I wish I had an easy answer for you.

Admiral's gotta a sick sense of humor,B Gotta hand it to him. Gives the hero to the murderer anyway? [...'Cause it's not just Barbara in her lap; it's an entire city.]

[Slight frown.]

Faith. Why do you think you can't do it?

I [There's not a particular reason; she just... she can't; how does she even get the girl to talk? Drinks didn't work; only other option she knows is sparring. And every time she thinks of that, she gets this horrible image of her hand smashing its way through Barbara's skull.]

[Strong, confident, and sure:] Faith, you can do this. You've led before. You can lead.

You also have a lot of good lessons you can teach an inmate, okay? You've been there, you know.

Yeah? 'Cause I don't see any bombs to lead her too.

[Ouch, she feels that pain. Those were her girls too. But she doesn't blame Faith for that. She could have easily walked into that trap as well.

Buffy sighs, rubs her face, and collects herself.]

Look, Faith, I'm not a born leader. You know exactly just how good I can be as a leader. [Aka: NOT all that great.] I barely know any better than you do, okay? We just.. Do our best, and hope it works out.

[Buffy doesn't know her inmate is batgirl. She blinks.] Gotham? She's from Gotham?

[Pause. Sigh.] Another alternate dimension? Can I just take this opportunity right now to say how glad I am that we're from the same world? Cause..

You sure about that, B? Figured you'd jump at the chance for a trade in. [Her tone's joking, but there's something more serious under there; she knows her and B are broken; and she's... she's... Well. Some part of her really does wonder if Buffy wouldn't trade her in for another slayer if given the choice.]

[She hears it. And yeah, she and Faith's relationship is more than just a little rough around the edges, but..]

I'm sure. [Teeeeeny smile.] Very sure. [Aaaand it's her turn to joke:] I'd want you to remember all the times I kicked your ass. [Big smile. No, she's not talking about the stabbing incident. She's trying to be teasing, to joke, not to bring on heavy things. Go with it, Faith.]

Hey, if you wanna go, I'm there, B. [She's got a smirk on her own face; this is something... this is something she can deal with easier than the file in her lap.] See if you haven't lost it yet.

I've still got it. I've got all of it. [She assures with a smirk.] Plus a whole lot more.

[A little more seriously, more genuine:] I'd be okay, good even, if you ever wanted to spar. I know we've never actually sparred, just beat each other up a lot, but. Hey, offer's there.

"Why not?" She smirks. "Could use a punching bag." Because seriousness... she doesn't know how to deal with that; she likes it better when you banter. And when she's teasing you.

...And she's certainly not giving you the last word.

Good. [She smiles a little.

Then moves on to the more serious topic.] Do you still need to- About alternate batgirl.

Barbara.

[She hesitates, than reaffirms.]

It's... Barbara.

Barbara. Right.

So..?

So far? [She snorts.] Not exactly big with talking.

I see.

I guess the first step is earning trust? Maybe she'll talk more.
